Pep Band is the sound and spirit of San Mateo High. Members of Marching, Concert, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands participate, performing a fun repertoire of classic rock and pop music (and the SMHS fight song!) designed to pump up the crowds at home football games and rallies. It is unique to the "Bearcat music" experience and a highlight for SMHS students and alumni. Go Bearcats!
Participation in Pep Band is mandatory for Marching Band instrumentalists and optional for students in Concert, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands who are not in Marching Band.
Please note:Pep Band is not an individual class, but an ensemble made up of members of Marching, Concert, Jazz, and Symphonic Bands. If you want to be part of this fun and spirited group, consider joining one of those four instrumental ensembles.
Pep Band Camp: Friday, August 14, 2026, 4:00 PM–8:00 PM. This event is for all instrumentalists in Marching Band, as well as Concert, Symphonic, and Jazz students who are interested in joining Pep Band. Students will receive a “flippy” folder of pep tunes and will sight-read music that will be performed throughout the year.
